Dear Census Collector,

Because of my Christian Libertarian principles I refuse to fill out the Census Papers.  Because they are compulsory, I know they are a violation of my right to privacy and a demonstration of the fact that our government seeks to operate via a Master- Slave relationship.

I reject this conception of government.

The Government works for me.  I am not their servant.

Nor do I accept the utilitarian argument that the Census is «helpful» for the Government with respect to social planning and policy.

I utterly condemn their totalitarian manipulation as if we, the citizens of New Zealand, are merely a pawns in their game to be used and controlled as they please.  I reject their Social engineering for the tyrannical failure that it is!  Thus, I want my Taxes and my liberty back!  I have no intention of legitimizing their power-tripping madness!

I also know that the government already has all the information regarding how many people live at this address, how much each individual earns, etc., so this fact also makes a double travesty and lie of the so-called necessity to have a compulsory Census.

Furthermore this compulsory Census is estimated to cost me, my family, friends, and neighbors 70-90 million dollars!  It is a gross misappropriation and waste of our hard earned money which was rapaciously extorted from us via other unjust and tyrannical laws and powers!

I personally have stood for Parliament many times in the Hamilton West electorate, both as a member of the Libertarianz party, and as an Independent Libertarian with the intention of getting into parliament so as to bring such socialist despotisms to a end.  Thus, I cannot in good conscience fill out the census as it represents everything repugnant about oppressive government power which I have dedicated myself to overthrow.

Some people have suggested I fill it out with bogus answers like «Jedi» as my religion, as 56,000 people did in 2001, yet I can not do that in good conscience, either!  It is no secret that am a Christian, yet I reject the state’s assertion that they have a right to demand I disclose such information to them.  History has proven what evils such information can bring at the hands of diabolical governments.  Thus, my refusal to fill out the Census is a far more righteous protest to this intrusion than the thousands of people whom write in lies, yet never are they brought before the courts!

This fact proves the State chooses to persecute a tiny minority of principled conscientious objectors like myself, whose non-compliance has such a minuscule effect to the accuracy of the data collected in comparison to all the misinformation gathered from the thousands of kiwi whom also hate the violation of their privacy yet prefer to submit fraudulent papers rather than risk prosecution for absolute refusal.

That so many people fill out the census with lies just goes to prove what a farce the whole thing is! Compulsion does not increase the accuracy of collected data!  The compulsion touters are simply fanatical statisticians who want as large a data set as they can get their greedy hands upon.

I have no beef with the Census personnel.  They don’t write the rules, and most of them are simply trying to earn an honest dollar.  Yet I would ask them how it is that they, in good conscience, participate in such a nasty and intrusive Government program? I ask how, in good conscience, they can parrot the threats of Court action and fines against conscientious objectors like myself?  I can only assume they have not thought through the true oppressive nature of the job they are doing, or that somehow they are of the belief that this intrusion can be justified because of the imaginary «benefits» this compulsion is supposed to deliver.

I have no desire to appear before court, or to be convicted, or fined.  I have a Job to maintain and a family to provide for and the very last thing I need is to hand over more of my money to a state system which is already robbing me blind!  That this is the truth about the census; that it threatens my livelihood and wellbeing of my family is despicable!

With this in mind, I am prepared to make the following compromise: I will fill out my name and address and sign it. That is all.  This was acceptable for the Census people in 2001, and in 2006, and I hope this will be acceptable again in 2013.

That is my final offer.

I have not hassled my wife into refusing to fill out her forms.  She is free to follow her own conscience, and has filled them out as she has seen fit.

WEAKBLOOD

Poem by Mark I Rasskazov, Editor in Chief.

My soul breaks like a storm against the rocky shore.
I will erode the sandy softness of the lie;
I uncover the jagged heart of an evil:
Brokenness stabbing heaven like a broken blade.

I am the cliff face; those who ride the high plateau
Will swiftly plunge to a raging river below.
If God will not grant you wings of merciful grace,
You belong to the wrath I spew among the stones.

Your weakness – your dross feeds my tireless, flaming ire.
My salivating twenty-three black, jagged teeth:
They lie in wait for you to trip, stumble, fall down.
The weak, they surround me; I will imbibe blood today.

NO WAY IN NO WAY OUT (SILLS AND SMITH): ALTERNATIVE TO THE ALTERNATIVE

Assessment: 9.0 out of 10.

Bottom line up front: Imagine yourself somewhere in Canada. There’s snow on the ground. It’s dark. It’s cold. As you walk down the ice-laden road, you see a bar nestled amidst the pines. The lights inside flicker a warm glow out onto the frozen ground below. As you approach, you hear a band playing. The music is as warm and inviting as the weather outside is cold and harsh. You step into the bar. The band’s drummer gives you a smile and a nod as you approach the bar. You order a whiskey on the rocks. The drink is cold, but sweet, and warms you as it goes down. You let the fire on the hearth, your stiff drink, and the full sound of the band wash over you until you’re relaxed from head to toe.

Highlights: The best part of this album is that it is so stylistically expansive. There’s something for everybody: metal, post-hippie jams, country, adult alternative, and good old alternative rock. This band’s sound is very thick, and the songs have good trajectory. Would it be Different is a Pink Floydesque favorite of mine. Lot’s of complex harmonies, good use of vocal technique, and amazing guitar solos. Melancholy World is another really good one; it’s a very upbeat, yet emotionally complex song with a beat that anyone can get behind, and guitar solos that make your soul ache. I Can’t Reach You is a good bluesy jam. In Pain, they demonstrate their artistic versatility by busting out a straight-up numetal anthem which is strangely consistent with the feel of the rest of the album. These Ghosts is a dreamlike song with a country feel.

Criticisms: My only real criticism is that, in some of their songs, they would do well to space out the lyrics a little more. It occasionally seems that they try to compress too many words into a short space. They would do well to use shorter poems, or else give their song a little more space to breathe. They’re choruses are usually the highlights of their songs; for example, in I’m Right Here, their verses are little too wordy, but the chorus: “I’m right heeeeeeeere, I’m right heeeeeeeere….” gives me chills every time.

Conclusion: This is an excellent album, overall. The more you listen to it, the more you like it. This album is better than their first one, a worthy effort in its own right (review pending) and I think the next one will be even better. I look forward to hearing it.

PHILOSOPHY FORUMS’ PHOBIA OF ORIGINAL THOUGHT

2656043491_86083bceffEditorial by Mark I Rasskazov, Editor in Chief.

I’m getting pretty tired of my comments being deleted «for being of low quality,» on the Philosophy Forums website, which is catch-all for «I just don’t like what you have to say.»  So I think it’s time to start documenting when I’m being silenced.  They have the right to act upon their phobia of original thought on their site, and I have the right to point it out when it happens.  I’m going start doing exactly that.

On Atticus II’s post entitled «Consciousness,» he writes:

«The concept is that there is a state of being aware, an awareness of being. Consciousness.  What we know about the brain is that it has developed through a long environmental and social struggle, to anticipate the future, maximize return on effort and minimize the risk and costs.  Why do people associate consciousness with a sense of self when it is more likely that the state and sense of arousal and alertness is predicted to be a necessity for our survival and to avoid our human stupidity?  If I look in the mirror there’s a face I recognize as my own, consciousness has no mirror and no concept of self or authenticity to begin with so how can it extract identity from actions, thoughts and emotions? How can it be self-awareness if it has no recognizable features?  Consciousness has an ecocentric basis even though it can be manipulated to seem egocentric, in any way people choose.»

I responded:

«I experience values, which manifest intentionality.  I take this to be evidence of the existence of my self.»

Is it a treatise?  No.  It is simple and succinct.  But it is also relevant and cogent.  It is not «of low quality.»

This post was deleted by the admin user, «Ying» for being «of low quality.»

This is the eighth comment of mine that has been deleted so far.  I do feel that I am being singled out, and I will be keeping a running tally of every comment of mine that is deleted from now on.

I enjoy making new friends — but failing that, I love a good fight, provided I have a good cause.  And this is is an excellent cause.

REST IN PAIN: THE POST-HARDCORE BADASSES FROM INDONESIA

Assessment: 8.7 out of 10.

Bottom line up front: These guys are proof that metal can save the world.  This act would fly anywhere where metal reigns.  This an Indonesian band that would be right at home at the Longview, TX metal scene.  Great screams.  Great clean vocals.  Great instrumental textures. Soaring melodies.

Highlights: This is balls-to-the-wall metal.  These guys bring it.  Saint and Sinner is a delightfully confrontational little tune.  It starts off with a bare drum solo that comes across as a war drum.  This transitions to a section with powerful riffs, with a chorus featuring well-blended clean vocals and screams.  The song culminates with a dissonant riff, that, while simple, is played in such a way that it washes over the listener like a shroud of flame.

Criticisms: Overall, these guys are legit.  The only real criticism I have is about the way these guys present themselves.  They call themselves emo.  I feel this is not accurate.  These guys are much too hardcore to be described that way.  Also, their English isn’t all that great — I don’t think anyone will mind, though.  They bring the metal.  That’s what counts.

Conclusion: I think these guys will find themselves welcome wherever metal is played.  I wish them the very best.

ASCENDERE: METAL — SHIVA STYLE

Assessment: 8.5 out of 10.

Bottom line up front: Metal is alive and well in the Indian subcontinent, and one of the better representatives of the rising Hindu (I’m assuming) Metal Horde is the band, Ascendere. With their blindingly fast and precise riffs, guitar solos dripping with chromatic flames, brutal screams, and crackling drums, these guys are a force to be reckoned with. Their single, Worthless is a fine specimen of reptilian metal brutality.

Highlights: These guys have everything hardcore metal heads are looking for in a band — driving riffs at breakneck speeds, powerful growls (focused mainly on the mids), an impressive drum performance, and great guitar solos; all set in a brutal quasi-octatonic pitch set.

Criticisms: Ascendere has demonstrated mastery of the genre. However, they have not yet added anything new. Of course the band was only formed in 2011, and they already have a very clean, sophisticated, and powerful brand of speed metal. It is not difficult to imagine that in the coming years, they may yet break new ground in the genre.

Bottom line: These guys stand out among their peers in terms of ability, although they do not yet stand out in terms of originality. That may yet come.
